Álvaro Gómez is Director of the National Road Safety Observatory at the Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT). He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a master’s in Public Leadership and Management.
He has around twenty years of experience in road safety: he started as a researcher at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and joined the DGT in 2010, where he has held several research and management positions. His work covers crash statistics, research dissemination and road safety plans and strategies.
He is also Technical Secretary of the Ibero-American Road Safety Observatory (OISEVI) and Secretary of Spain’s Higher Council for Traffic, Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility.
